Not every family shoot turns out the way you originally planned it. Sometimes life just plays its own tune – and that’s exactly what makes many shoots so special.
This is also the case with this loving session at Lake Neusiedlwhich I particularly remember.
Actually, a classic family shoot was planned – mom, dad and their little son wanted to create memories together, outside in nature, in beautiful evening light. But shortly before that, everything changed: Dad fell ill and couldn’t be there. For many, this might have been a reason to postpone the event or cancel it altogether.
But mom made a conscious decision not to – and I think that was a wonderful decision. Because it is precisely moments like these that show how strong and loving families are, even if not everyone can always be there. And so our planned family shoot quickly turned into a very special “Mommy & Me” shootwhich captured the close bond between mother and son in a very touching way.
Evening atmosphere and vibrant colors – the magic of Lake Neusiedl
We met in the early evening, as the light slowly softened and the sun bathed the lake in golden hues. This time of day is magical for me anyway – the so-called “Golden Hour” light brings with it a very special atmosphere. What’s more, it was one of those perfect evenings where the water is calm, the sky is brightly colored and the nature all around seems almost fairytale-like.
The little man was a bit reserved at first – which is totally understandable, especially when his dad is missing. But honestly? This reticence very quickly turned into curiosity and fun. Together with his mom, he laughed, frolicked, threw stones into the water – and there were always these little moments when the love between the two of them was so clearly palpable.
Memories that last
I love it when something so personal and genuine emerges from a seemingly “unplanned” shoot. Because Family photos don’t have to be perfect. It’s not about everyone smiling at the camera or getting every detail right. It’s about capturing real feelingsto feel closeness and to preserve moments for later.
Especially for dad, who couldn’t be there for this shoot, these pictures are now very special memories. And perhaps that is also the most beautiful message of this shoot: that family is not only visible when everyone is together – but also in the moments when you are there for each other, no matter what.
